PAPERMAKING WORKSHOP - STUDENT MATERIALS LIST
Instructor: Pangaea
Dear student,
Thank you for signing up for the papermaking workshop. Please bring the following
items to class:
- A blender just like you use in your kitchen for making "Margaritas" or
"smoothies". (Not a food processor.) Nothing toxic will be used so once your
blender is washed you can use it in your kitchen again.
- A roll of wax paper.
- Two packets of "Handiwipes". (sort of a cross between paper & cloth) you get
them at the grocery store. OR 1 yard of pellon interfacing which can be purchased
at a fabric store. Light weight is best, but any weight will be fine.
- A clean new kitchen sponge or a small sea sponge.
- One or two paint strainer bags. You can get these in the paint department at any
home improvement center. (Looks a little like a large nylon net bag)
- A strainer with a handle like you use in the kitchen. NOT a collander with large
holes.
- Some paper to recycle. Brown paper bags & colored paper from flyers works well.
Paper with a glossy finish does not work.
- Small dried flowers or leaves, threads, confetti, or other small bits of things
you'd like to embed in your paper.
- A flat tray or box to carry your papers home. They'll still be wet when you
leave. A tray about 10"X12" should be big enough.
- Scissors.
We'll be making our own mold & deckle which is our main tool for forming sheets of
paper. The following tools will help greatly to speed up the process as I only have
a limited number of these items for students to share.
- A hammer for hammering nails.
- A staple gun if you have one.
- Metal shears.
- work gloves of leather or canvas.
